Trump threatens Venezuela's new leader with harsher punishment than Maduro

US President Donald Trump said that if the new leader of Venezuela, Delcy Rodriguez, takes a "wrong step", the consequences for her could be harsher than the measures applied to Nicolas Maduro, APA reports, citing The Atlantic.

According to Trump, Washington is closely following the processes in Venezuela and may react harshly to the steps of the country's new leadership.

The US president again touched on the topic of Greenland. He said that the United States needs control over the island for security reasons, since there is an active presence of Russian and Chinese ships in the region. Trump stressed that Washington cannot turn a blind eye to this situation.

It should be noted that Delcy Rodriguez has begun to temporarily exercise the powers of the head of state in Venezuela.

In his first speech, he declared that Venezuela will never be anyone's colony, demanded the release of Nicolas Maduro along with his wife, and said that he considers Maduro to be the legitimate president of the country.
