Declaring the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) a terrorist organization by the European Union (EU) is a strategic mistake, said Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi at a joint press conference with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan in Istanbul, APA’s Türkiye bureau reports.
The Iranian foreign minister noted that “it was the IRGC that protected Europe from the ISIS threat.”
According to him, the European Union has made a strategic mistake: “Europe has serious strategic mistakes. We can only view this with disappointment. Europe has made serious strategic errors both in its calculations and in other matters. Unfortunately, the European Union has turned into an institution heading toward decline, having lost its role and its ability to influence the international arena. I even think the EU can no longer clearly see or properly assess its own interests. If there were no Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, who would fight ISIS and other terrorist groups? Their threat could have reached the streets of Europe. The value of these efforts carried out for Europe’s security is unfortunately not being properly appreciated,” Abbas Araghchi emphasized.
It should be noted that the EU recognized the IRGC as a terrorist organization the other day.
