Work on drafting a detailed design project for the creation of a tram network in Baku is planned for this yearç Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport Rahman Hummatov said while speaking at a roundtable dedicated to the implementation of the 2025 measures under the “State Program on Improving Transport Infrastructure in Baku and Surrounding Areas for 2025–2030," APA-Economics reports.
“The plan for establishing a tram network in Baku is that, following the conceptual plan, we will move on to the design stage first,” Hummatov added.
He noted that this involves a professional design company preparing the project for the entire network, including five lines and three depots.
“After the design stage, we will continue to approach this based on an overall plan. There are several leading companies worldwide that build this type of infrastructure — including companies from China, Europe, and other countries. The goal is to select the most suitable proposal for us through a transparent tender once a fully detailed project is prepared.
It is also possible that the entity implementing the project may come with its own financing, expertise, and other resources. None of this is excluded. As the next step, we are moving to the stage of preparing this detailed design project, and we plan to complete this work within the year,” he said.
