Baku Court of Appeal rejects appeal of ex-SOCAR-AQS director Ramin Isayev

A court hearing has been held on the appeal against the verdict in the case of former Director General of SOCAR-AQS LLC, Ramin Isayev, who is in custody and accused of embezzlement on a particularly large scale, APA reports.

A decision was made today at the Baku Court of Appeal during a hearing chaired by Judge Murad Mammadov.

According to the decision, the appeal was not satisfied, and the verdict of the lower court was upheld.

Under the verdict of the Baku Court on Grave Crimes, Ramin Isayev was sentenced to 14 years of imprisonment, with deprivation of the right to hold managerial and financially responsible positions in state and local self-government bodies for a period of 4 years. SOCAR’s civil claim was satisfied. In addition, the defendant’s property will be confiscated. He will serve his sentence in a strict-regime penal institution.

Ramin Isayev is accused of embezzling 54 million manats.

He has been charged under Articles 179.4 (embezzlement on a particularly large scale), 193-1.3.2 (legalization of property obtained by criminal means), 308.2 (abuse of official authority causing grave consequences), and 313 (official forgery) of the Criminal Code.

R. Isayev was dismissed from the position of Director General of SOCAR-AQS LLC in 2020. He was arrested by the Main Department for Combating Corruption under the Prosecutor General.
