Former diplomat Ramiz Valiyev, who was detained by the State Security Service (SSS), has been granted an amnesty, APA reports.
In the trial held at the Baku Court of Appeal, chaired by Judge Faig Ganiyev, the verdict of the first instance court was changed, and his sentence was reduced by 6 months, and the final term was set at 4 years and 6 months.
Note that former diplomat Ramiz Valiyev, who was a counselor at the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Arab Republic of Egypt, was detained on December 8, 2024, as a result of operational measures taken by the SSS.
He was charged under Article 308.2 (abuse of official authority) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
R. Valiyev was found guilty of causing serious harm to the rights and legitimate interests of individuals or legal entities, including the interests of the state protected by law, by intentionally using his official powers contrary to the interests of the service in order to obtain an illegal advantage for himself or third parties in connection with the performance of his official duties.
According to the verdict of the Narimanov District Court, Ramiz Valiyev was sentenced to 5 years in prison. As an additional punishment, he was also deprived of the right to hold certain positions for 2 years.
