The final trial of the criminal case of Vagif Allahverdiyev, who lives in the United States and is accused of incitement against the state, has been held, APA reports.
The verdict was read in absentia today at the Baku Court on Grave Crimes , chaired by Judge Roman Alakbarli.
According to the verdict, Vagif Allahverdiyev was sentenced to 8 years in prison.
Note that a decision was adopted to charge Vagif Allahverdiyev as an accused under Article 281.2 of the Criminal Code. It was stated that since he evaded the investigation and went into hiding outside the borders of Azerbaijan, he was placed on the wanted list for the announcement of charges. By a decision of the Binagadi District Court dated February 23, 2025, a preventive measure of arrest in absentia was selected against him.
On September 18, 2025, additions and amendments were made to the substance of the charges, and a decision was adopted to charge Vagif Allahverdiyev as an accused under Articles 220.2 and 281.2 of the Criminal Code.
It was noted that while living in the U.S. state of California, he changed his name and surname to Victor Alexander. In March–May 2017, he prepared five separate video addresses. In those videos, he addressed Azerbaijani citizens, making open calls that could lead to the disruption of public order and tranquility and security, paralyze the activities of state authorities, and encourage actions against the legally formed and functioning existing government in Azerbaijan through the use of force.
