PSG, with Safonov at the helm, beat Liverpool in the Champions League

French club Paris Saint-Germain defeated English club Liverpool 2-0 at home in the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal match at the Parc des Princes stadium, APA reports.

The winning goals were scored by Désiré Doué (11th minute) and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (65). The return leg will be held at Liverpool's home stadium on April 14.

Russian goalkeeper Matvey Safonov defended the Parisian team's goal. He played his 18th match of the season and his seventh in the Champions League. He kept eight clean sheets.

PSG is the reigning Champions League champion. In the final of last year's tournament, the French team crushed Italy's Inter Milan 5-0. On their way to the trophy, PSG defeated Liverpool 0-1 and 2-0 on aggregate in the Round of 16. Liverpool is a six-time Champions League winner.
