Parviz Shahbazov: Energy security has now become a matter of national security

Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan Parviz Shahbazov spoke about energy connectivity and future projects in the region and across Eurasia during his speech at the 2nd Istanbul Natural Resources Summit (INRES 2026), APA’s Türkiye bureau reports.

The minister noted that energy security has now become a matter of national security.

He stated that in the 21st century, energy power is measured not only by production, but also by supply security, connectivity, and reliable partnership. According to him, these factors have become even more important against the backdrop of energy crises in the Middle East and Europe.

The minister stressed that in the future, the Azerbaijan–Georgia–Türkiye–Bulgaria electricity interconnectors and other regional electricity links will become a key part of energy integration. He also noted that the possibilities of transporting Azerbaijan’s energy resources from the Caspian region to Türkiye and further to Europe via Armenia through the Zangezur corridor are being discussed.

“The Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan oil pipeline and the Southern Gas Corridor natural gas pipeline are currently considered among the most reliable and predictable projects. They not only connect our countries and neighbors, but also transform Azerbaijan, Türkiye, and other partners into one of the key pillars of Eurasian energy infrastructure,” the minister said.
