Kazakhstan is evaluating the Baku-Supsa pipeline among its potential oil export routes, Kazakhstan’s Energy Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov said in a statement to local media that no proposals regarding the Baku-Supsa route have yet been received from Azerbaijan, APA-Economics reports.
It should be noted that Kazakhstan reduced its oil and gas condensate exports from 19.5 million tons in the first quarter of the previous year to 15.3 million tons in the first quarter of 2026. The decline is linked to lower production at the Tengiz field, the country’s largest oil field, as well as restrictions on crude transportation through the Caspian Pipeline Consortium terminal and the port of Novorossiysk.
It should be recalled that Azerbaijan and Georgia agreed in May this year to resume the operation of the Baku-Supsa oil pipeline. The Baku-Supsa export route is designed for transporting oil produced from the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli block of fields. Commissioned in April 1999, the pipeline is 837 kilometers long and has an annual capacity of more than 7 million tons. Oil transportation via this route was suspended in the spring of 2022.
