Prime Minister: Competitiveness of the Middle Corridor will further increase

The competitiveness of the Middle Corridor will further increase, Prime Minister Ali Asadov said at the meeting of prime ministers and vice presidents of the OTS member states held in Baku, APA reports.

“The geostrategic position of the Turkic world creates very significant advantages for our countries. Our region, located at the intersection of East-West and North-South directions connecting Europe and Asia, holds great importance in terms of international transport and logistics. In order to use this potential more effectively, the development of transport connectivity and the expansion of transit opportunities should be among the main priorities.

In this regard, the importance of the Middle Corridor should be specifically emphasized. Recently, this route has been becoming one of the most promising, safe, and reliable transport links on the Eurasian transport map. As a result of our joint efforts, transit transportation along the Middle Corridor continues to grow steadily. In 2025, this growth amounted to nearly 11% (5 million tons). Azerbaijan has made significant investments in the development of the Middle Corridor and has created modern transport and logistics infrastructure. Strengthening the merchant fleet in the Caspian Sea, expanding the capabilities of the international seaport, upgrading railway and road infrastructure, and establishing logistics centers are among the important steps taken in this direction.

We are confident that further strengthening coordination among member states, simplifying border and customs procedures, implementing digital solutions, and harmonizing tariff policies will further enhance the competitiveness of the Middle Corridor. In this context, the implementation of the Zangezur corridor is also of great importance. The significance of this project is not limited to ensuring an uninterrupted connection between mainland Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

This project is also of strategic importance in terms of connecting the entire Turkic world and opening new transport and communication opportunities for the broader region,” the prime minister emphasized.
