A magnitude 5.6 earthquake was recorded off the coast of Hokkaido, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre said, APA reports.
According to his data, the epicenter of the tremors was located 111 km northeast of the city of Hachinohe (northern Aomori Prefecture), home to approximately 239,000 people. The epicenter was located at a depth of 62 km.
There were no reports of casualties or damage, and no tsunami threat was issued.
