Uzbekistan-Azerbaijan Interparliamentary Forum opens

The opening ceremony of the First Uzbekistan-Azerbaijan Interparliamentary Forum was held today in Khiva, Uzbekistan,the Press and Public Relations Department of the Milli Majlis told APA.

The event was attended by the heads and deputies of the legislative bodies of both countries. Speaker of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova noted that the forum is a significant event for the parliaments of the two countries.

She added that this is the first forum held by the Azerbaijani Milli Majlis with the legislative body of any other country.

Highlighting Uzbekistan’s firm and unwavering position on Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity as another important aspect of Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan relations, Gafarova said that the Azerbaijani people have felt the brotherly support of the Uzbek people during the years of Armenia’s occupation, the Second Karabakh War, and the post-war period.

The Speaker expressed confidence that the forum will become an effective cooperation mechanism and that the discussions will greatly contribute to strengthening interparliamentary relations.

Uzbekistan Senate Chair Tanzila Narbayeva, speaking at the forum, said the event took place on the eve of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, emphasizing the forum’s importance.

After the speeches of the parliament speakers, the First Uzbekistan-Azerbaijan Interparliamentary Forum continued its work with session discussions.
