The trial of Azerbaijanis detained by law enforcement agencies in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg has begun, APA's Russian bureau reports.

9 Azerbaijanis, who were arrested by force on June 27 this year and suspected of a crime committed in the early 2000s, have been brought before a court.

The court is considering the choice of pre-trial detention for Azerbaijanis.

The trial in the Leninsky Court of Yekaterinburg will determine whether to choose a pre-trial detention measure for Azerbaijanis detained on suspicion of several murders and attempted murders.

According to the information released by the Sverdlovsk Regional Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia, the episodes in which charges were brought against Azerbaijanis took place in Yekaterinburg in 2001, 2010, and 2011.

It should be noted that on the morning of June 27, an operation was carried out in more than 10 apartments where Azerbaijanis lived in Yekaterinburg. Most members of the Safarov family, originally from Agdam, were detained. During the operation, two brothers - Ziyeddin and Huseyn Safarov - were killed, and many Azerbaijanis were detained. Several people were hospitalized.
