The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Azerbaijan Gurbanmammet Elyasov held a meeting with Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmet Hajiyev, APA reports.
During the meeting, the sides synchronized their positions on current issues of bilateral cooperation and highly assessed the outcomes of 2025, describing it as a new bright chapter in the history of Turkmen-Azerbaijani relations. It was emphasized that the past year was marked by an intensive agenda, including mutual high-level visits, as well as the active development of cultural and humanitarian exchanges.
It was particularly noted that, thanks to the initiatives of the Presidents of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, as well as the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, bilateral relations are developing in the spirit of brotherhood and strategic partnership. Active strengthening of cooperation was noted in the energy, transport (including within the framework of the Middle Corridor), trade, and cultural spheres.
The meeting also addressed a number of issues related to upcoming international forums, meetings, and other events scheduled for 2026 in both Turkmenistan and the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Special attention was paid to the forthcoming 8th Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia and Azerbaijan, which will take place in the autumn of 2026 in Turkmenistan. It was emphasized that Azerbaijan’s participation in this format for the first time as a full-fledged participant will constitute an important step toward further strengthening regional cooperation and dialogue.
