Cargo transportation via the Middle Corridor through Azerbaijan increases by 7%

In the first half of this year, 1.741 million tons of transit cargo were transported through the Middle Corridor via the territory of Azerbaijan, which represents a 7% increase compared to the same period last year, AZCON Holding told APA-Economics.

During the reporting period, 666 thousand tons of cargo were transported by dry cargo vessels operated by the “Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company” (ASCO), which is an 83% increase year-on-year.

According to the report, in the first quarter of this year, ASCO’s tanker vessels transported 2.2 million tons of cargo, indicating a 12% increase compared to the same period of 2024.

Additionally, during the reporting period, ASCO transported 684 thousand tons of cargo beyond the Caspian Sea, which is 208% more than in January–June of the previous year.

It should also be noted that 53 thousand TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units) containers were handled at the Port of Baku during the reporting period, representing a 71% increase compared to January–June 2024.
