Armenian Parliament revokes another opposition MP's immunity

The Armenian Parliament has deprived Artur Sarkisyan, a representative of the opposition “Hayastan” faction, of parliamentary immunity, APA reports, citing Armenian media.

62 MPs voted in favor of the Prosecutor General's motion on this matter, with no votes against it.

The former mayor of Sisian will be subject to criminal prosecution as part of the case involving Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, who is accused of “attempting to seize power by force and preparing a terrorist act.”

Note that Armenia’s former defense minister, Seyran Ohanyan, has been stripped of his parliamentary immunity. In addition to Ohanyan, Artsvik Minasyan, the secretary of the opposition “Hayastan” faction, has also had his immunity revoked.

Last week, Armenia’s Prosecutor General submitted a motion to the parliament to strip former defense minister and leader of the opposition “Hayastan” faction, Seyran Ohanyan, of his parliamentary immunity.

Recall that the criminal case against the leader of the “Hayastan” faction concerns the illegal appropriation of 10,500 square meters of land in the Draxtik community of Gegharkunik province during 2010-2015. Ohanyan is accused of unlawfully acquiring this land while serving as defense minister and building a mansion at the state’s expense.
