Individuals preparing to carry out a terrorist attack against a foreign country’s embassy in Azerbaijan have been arrested, APA reports, citing the press service of the State Security Service.
During operational and investigative measures carried out by the State Security Service, reasonable suspicion was established that citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan – Ilgar Ilham oglu Guliyev, born in 2000, known by the religious alias “Abu Zar al-Muhajir”, Amin Elshad oglu Piriyev, born in 2005, known by the religious alias “Abdurashid”, and Elvin Senan oglu Alizade, born in 2005, known by the religious alias “Abdurrahman al-Azari” – were preparing to commit a terrorist attack against a foreign country’s embassy in Baku on the grounds of religious hostility.
The suspects are alleged to have established criminal links with members of the ISIS terrorist organisation’s “Wilayat Khorasan” armed group and, acting as a premeditated group, obtained items intended to be used as weapons to carry out a terrorist attack against a foreign state’s embassy in Azerbaijan. They were detained by officers of the State Security Service while approaching the area where the embassy is located.
Ilgar Guliyev, Amin Piriyev and Elvin Alizade have been charged under Articles 28 and 214.2.1, 28 and 214.2.3, and 28 and 214.2.6 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan – preparation for terrorism committed by a group of persons acting in prior conspiracy, using items as weapons, and motivated by religious hostility. By court decision, a preventive measure of pretrial detention has been imposed on them.
Investigative and operational measures in the criminal case are currently ongoing.
