Jury formed in Yekaterinburg trial of Azerbaijani diaspora leader Shahin Shikhlinski and others

The Kirovsky District Court of Yekaterinburg has formed the jury panel for the case of Shahin Shikhlinski, leader of the Azerbaijani diaspora in the Urals, and others, APA’s Russia bureau reports, citing the Kirovsky District Court.

It was noted that the jury panel has been formed for the criminal case related to murder and attempted assassination.

Seven defendants, including Shahin Shikhlinski, leader of the Azerbaijani diaspora in the region, are reported to be in the dock.

The jury panel of the court will begin deliberations on January 26 at 14:00.

Note that in June this year, Russian law enforcement agencies carried out an operation against Azerbaijanis in Yekaterinburg. During the operation, force was used, and as a result, two Azerbaijani nationals — brothers Ziyaddin and Huseyn Safarov — died from the injuries they sustained. Other members of the Safarov family and several compatriots were arrested by court order. They face charges related to crimes allegedly committed in 2001, 2010, and 2011. Subsequently, the head of the Azerbaijani diaspora in Yekaterinburg, Shahin Shikhlinski, and his son Mutvali Shikhlinski were detained. A criminal case was opened against Mutvali Shikhlinski on charges of using violence against a representative of the state, while Shahin Shikhlinski is accused of attempted contract killing and using violence against a state official.
