Iran responds to Syria’s compensation demand over Assad-era support

Financial demands are not canceled with a change of government in the country, said Esmail Baghaei, the head of the press service of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at a press conference while responding to the statement of the Syrian Minister of Finance, APA reports.

"Economic demands between countries have laws and regulations. Financial demands do not change and do not disappear with a change of government," Baghaei emphasized.

Note that Iran states that Syria's state debts must be paid.

In response to Iran's position, Syrian Finance Minister Mohammad Barniyya emphasized that compensation will be demanded from Iran, considering official Tehran's support for the Bashar al-Assad government and its role in the destruction.
