“This morning, the United States committed an act of armed aggression against Venezuela. This is deeply concerning,” APA’s Moscow bureau reports.
This was stated in a statement by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the US attack on Venezuela.
“The pretexts used to justify such actions are unfounded. In the current situation, it is important above all to focus on preventing further escalation and on finding a way out through dialogue. We believe that all partners who may have complaints against each other should seek solutions to problems through dialogue. We are ready to support them in this,” the statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
It was emphasized that Latin America should remain a zone of peace, as it declared itself in 2014: “Venezuela’s right to determine its own future without any destructive foreign military intervention must be ensured. We reaffirm our solidarity with the Venezuelan people and our support for the course of the Bolivarian leadership aimed at protecting the country’s national interests and sovereignty. We support the statements by the Venezuelan authorities and the leaders of Latin American countries calling for an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council.
Russia’s Embassy in Caracas is operating normally considering the current situation and remains in constant contact with the Venezuelan authorities and Russian citizens residing in Venezuela. At present, there is no information about any Russian citizens being injured.”
