Danish PM calls on US to stop making threats against kingdom

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen emphasized that Greenland is part of the kingdom and called on the United States to cease its threats, emphasizing that there is no point in Washington taking control of the island, APA reports.

"The United States has no right to annex any of the three Commonwealth countries (Denmark, Greenland, and the Faroe Islands – TASS). The Kingdom of Denmark, and therefore Greenland, are part of NATO and are therefore covered by the alliance's security guarantees. We already have a defense agreement between the Kingdom and the United States, which grants the US broad access to Greenland, and we, on the Kingdom's part, have invested heavily in ensuring security in the Arctic," the statement on the head of government's website reads. "Therefore, I urge the United States to stop making threats against a historically close ally, as well as against another country and another people who have very clearly stated that they are not for sale."
