Ambassador: China supports Azerbaijan's membership in SCO

“We support Azerbaijan’s membership in the SCO and its active participation in international initiatives,” said Lu Mei, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Azerbaijan, during her speech at the annual press conference for 2025, APA reports.

According to her, China and Azerbaijan closely cooperate in international platforms such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the UN, and support each other:

“China supports Azerbaijan’s membership in the SCO, welcomes Azerbaijan’s chairmanship of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), and highly appreciates its active participation in international affairs. China is ready to further strengthen multilateral cooperation with Azerbaijan and safeguard the common interests of the countries of the Global South.”

The ambassador added that cooperation in the economic and trade sectors is also developing with high dynamics. According to her, in January-October 2025, China-Azerbaijan trade turnover reached 2.44 billion US dollars, which is 21.9 percent more than in the same period last year:

“It is expected that the annual trade turnover will once again reach a historical record. This is the third consecutive year. China remains Azerbaijan’s largest source of imports and the fourth largest trading partner.”

Lu Mei emphasized that practical cooperation between their countries continues to yield real and productive results in both the economic and humanitarian spheres.
