Vagif Khachaturyan, who is currently imprisoned in Azerbaijan, has been hospitalized.
In response to an inquiry from APA, the Ministry of Justice stated that the health condition of Vagif Khachaturyan, born in 1955 (70 years old) and currently serving a sentence, deteriorated on December 22, 2025. He developed shortness of breath and pain in the heart area. First medical aid was provided by a doctor from the Medical and Sanitary Unit of the Ministry of Justice’s Main Medical Department, after which he was urgently evacuated by ambulance to the Ministry of Justice’s medical facility. Intensive treatment and resuscitation measures were carried out there; however, due to the absence of noticeable positive dynamics in his condition, he was transferred to a relevant state medical institution to receive highly specialized medical care.
His condition is currently assessed as serious, and intensive treatment continues.
Note that Vagif Khachaturyan was convicted of committing genocide in the village of Meshali in the Khojaly district as a member of illegal Armenian armed groups and was sentenced on November 7, 2023, to 15 years in prison.
