As a result of the consultations held between the United States and Russia in Miami, progress has been recorded in the negotiations on Ukraine, said JD Vance, US Vice President, in an interview with the publication UnHerd, APA reports.
According to Vance, American negotiators provided him with updated information about the dialogue held with the Russian side.
“This morning, I received updated information from our negotiators. In my opinion, the progress we have achieved consists of the fact that all issues have essentially been brought up for open discussion,” he said.
Vance noted that the main problem of the negotiations remains the issue of territories, particularly the Donetsk region.
“I believe that the Russians really want to gain territorial control over Donetsk. The Ukrainians, on the other hand, consider this a serious security issue and even privately acknowledge that they may ultimately lose Donetsk – but you know, this could happen in 12 months or later. Therefore, this territorial concession causes a serious delay in the negotiations – I would call it a terrible territorial concession,” the U.S. Vice President added.
