Those who negligently destroy cultural property will face up to two years in prison, APA reports.
This is reflected in the proposed amendment to the Criminal Code, which was discussed at today's session of the Milli Majlis.
Under the draft amendment, if the violation of the rules established by law for the protection, study, and use of cultural property protected by the state leads to its destruction due to negligence, the perpetrator will be punished with a fine of up to twice the amount of the damage caused, or with restriction of liberty for up to two years, or with imprisonment for the same term.
The draft law was put to a vote and passed on first reading.
If adopted, the law will come into force on February 1, 2026.
