Azerbaijan proposes prison term for negligent damage to state-protected cultural property

Those who negligently destroy cultural property will face up to two years in prison, APA reports.

This is reflected in the proposed amendment to the Criminal Code discussed today at the joint meeting of the Parliamentary Committees on Law Policy and State Building, and on Culture.

Under the draft amendment, if the violation of the rules established by law for the protection, study, and use of cultural property protected by the state leads to its destruction due to negligence, the perpetrator will be punished with a fine of up to twice the amount of the damage caused, or with restriction of liberty for up to two years, or with imprisonment for the same term.
