Azerbaijan raises retirement age for prosecutors to 65

The retirement age for service in the prosecutor's office is being increased, APA reports.

At today’s session of the Milli Majlis, proposed amendments to the draft law “On Service in Prosecutor’s Offices” were discussed. According to the amendment, the age limit for serving in the prosecutor’s office will be raised from 60 to 65.

According to the current law, the length of service in the prosecution can be extended up to the age of 65, with each extension lasting no more than one year.

Currently, prosecutors who have served at least 35 years in the prosecution service until reaching the retirement age (except those deprived of special ranks) are entitled to a pension based on age and may be relieved from service upon their request. According to the proposed amendment, prosecutors who have served at least 35 years until reaching the retirement age (except those deprived of special ranks) will have the right to an age-based pension.

Among the grounds for terminating the service of a prosecutor, reaching the maximum age limit for service in the prosecution will be added.

It is noted that the main purpose of this amendment is to create conditions for experienced prosecutors with long service records to continue their work in the prosecution bodies, thereby increasing the efficiency of these institutions.

The law will apply to current prosecutors as well as those appointed after it enters into force.

Following discussions, the draft law was adopted in the third reading.
