Samir Sharifov: Damage to Azerbaijan from occupation and aggression estimated at $150 billion

"According to the assessment of the Azerbaijani Government Commission, military aggression and occupation caused $150 billion in damage to Azerbaijan," said Deputy Prime Minister Samir Sharifov at the UN’s 4th International Conference on Financing for Development, APA reports.

Sharifov noted that after suffering aggression and 30 years of occupation over 20% of its territory, Azerbaijan ended the occupation in November 2020, restored its territorial integrity, and began the reconstruction of liberated areas. The government is implementing the State Program for the Great Return to resettle displaced compatriots to their native towns and villages.

So far, $15 billion from the state budget has been spent on the program’s implementation.

Sharifov also reiterated that, based on the Azerbaijani Government Commission’s assessment, military aggression and occupation inflicted $150 billion worth of damage on Azerbaijan.

Since more than 15% of the damage is related to landmine contamination, by the decision of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, mine safety was adopted by Azerbaijan as the 18th national SDG, and this approach was recommended to other countries
