Heavy rains cause flooding in Moscow after two days of downpours - VIDEO

Heavy rains lasting for two days in Moscow have caused flooding, APA’s Russia bureau reports.

Heavy rains lasting for two days in Moscow on May 17-18 caused flooding in certain areas of the city. In particular, rainwaters washed away road barriers near VDNKh (Exhibition of Achievements of National Economy).

According to meteorologists, the city’s measuring devices recorded a historic maximum, exceeding the level registered in 1904. More than half of the monthly average precipitation — 34 mm — fell at the VDNKh station.

Residents in other areas also faced problems due to the intense rainfall. Measuring devices recorded 25 mm of precipitation in Dolgoprudny in the Moscow region, while Nemchinovka and Novo-Yerusalim recorded 19 mm. The city’s infrastructure operated under extreme overload.

Cars were submerged in deep puddles near the area called “Botanicheskiy Sad” in Moscow.

Note that floods and landslides caused by heavy rains in Dagestan in March-April this year damaged approximately 8,000 houses. Heavy rains also created serious problems in Chechnya.
