Araghchi: Lack of response to attacks on nuclear facilities undermines IAEA's prestige

The lack of an appropriate response from International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi to the attacks on Iran's nuclear facilities undermines both the credibility of the organization's leader and the IAEA's prestige, according to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, APA reports.

"Iran considers the ongoing US and Israeli attacks on peaceful nuclear facilities, particularly the Bushehr nuclear power plant, illegal and warns of the serious risks to human health and the environment, as well as the possibility of radioactive contamination," Araghchi wrote in a letter to UN Secretary-General António Guterres. According to the Iranian minister, "the UN Security Council, the IAEA Board of Governors, and its Director General have failed to take effective measures within their authority to prevent a recurrence of such actions."

Furthermore, according to Araghchi, Grossi "in his recent media interview in March 2026, disclosed confidential information regarding Iran's security guarantees and peaceful nuclear program." The Foreign Minister believes that "the misuse of such information by adversaries could facilitate further attacks on Iran's safeguarded nuclear facilities."

According to Araghchi, such actions by the IAEA Director General "undermined confidence in the international agency's safeguards regime, the impartiality of the IAEA, and its Director General."
