“Heydar Aliyev-2026” Azerbaijan-Türkiye joint military exercise to be held in Kars -PHOTO-UPDATED

A flag exchange ceremony between Azerbaijan and Türkiye was held in preparation for the joint exercise “Heydar Aliyev-2026” to be conducted in Kars, Türkiye, in accordance with the military cooperation agreement signed between the two countries, Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Defense told APA.

A flag unit departing from the headquarters of the Nakhchivan Separate Combined Arms Army began marching from Nakhchivan city towards the Sadarak border checkpoint — the “Umut” bridge over the Araz River. At the same time, Türkiye’s flag unit also set off from Kars towards the location where the ceremony would be held.

At the “Umut” bridge, following the performance of the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Independence March of the Republic of Türkiye, the flag exchange ceremony took place.

Afterwards, at an event held to mark the departure of personnel and military equipment to be involved in the exercise, Commander of the Separate Combined Arms Army, Lieutenant General Kenan Seyidov, spoke about the importance of the joint military exercise and wished success to the participants.

Following the event, the units to be involved in the exercise departed from Nakhchivan city.

It was noted that the purpose of the exercise is to plan and execute joint operations in accordance with the principles of modern warfare, organize coordination, exchange experience in comprehensive combat support, and enhance the knowledge and skills of personnel.

According to the exercise plan, combat operations under various conditions, as well as special tasks, will be carried out.

Units of the Combined Arms Army visited Türkiye, APA reports citing press service of the Turkish Ministry of National Defense.

According to the information, the units will participate in the "Heydar Aliyev-2026" exercises to be held under the command of the 14th Mechanized Infantry Brigade.

It is reported that the personnel of the 5th Border Brigade of Türkiye welcomed the Azerbaijani servicemen at the Hasret Bridge and a flag ceremony was organized.
