Super Moon observed in Azerbaijan

A Super Moon event has been observed in Azerbaijan, APA reports.

The event began on November 5 at 17:10 and ended on November 6 at 08:10.

The Moon’s closest approach to Earth was observed at 02:30 during the night from November 5 to 6.

During the Super Moon event, the Moon appeared approximately 8 percent larger and 16 percent brighter than a regular full moon.

The distance between the Moon and the Earth was 356,832 km.

Note that the Super Moon event poses no danger to humans. As the Moon approaches the Earth, its gravitational force affects ocean and sea levels more strongly. This can cause water levels to rise by 3–5 cm higher than usual.

Recall that the Moon’s closest approach to Earth (perigee) occurred on January 4, 1912, when the distance was 356,375 km. In subsequent years, the closest approaches were recorded on January 26, 1948 (356,508 km), November 14, 2016 (356,509 km), and January 1, 2018 (356,565 km). The next Super Moon event with maximum approach (356,447 km) will occur on November 25, 2034.
