Export of Azerbaijani gas to Syria via Türkiye will reduce electricity crisis - Director General of the Qatar Development Fund

Export of Azerbaijani gas to Syria will reduce the electricity crisis in the country

The commissioning of the Türkiye-Syria gas pipeline and the export of Azerbaijani gas from Türkiye to Syria through it will reduce the electricity crisis in this country, said Director General of the Qatar Development Fund, Fahad Hamad Al-Sulaiti during his speech at the opening ceremony of the Türkiye-Syria gas pipeline, APA-Economics' correspondent assigned to Türkiye reports.

The main goal of the project: reducing the electricity crisis

"The goal of this project is to reduce the electricity crisis in the Syrian Arab Republic," said Fahad Hamad Al-Sulaiti.

Daily transmission capacity is 3.4 million cubic meters

According to him, the daily transmission capacity of the project is 3.4 million cubic meters of natural gas, which is equivalent to 1.2 billion cubic meters annually.

Electricity transmission hours will increase by 40%

Fahad Hamad Al-Sulaiti added that the aforementioned gas volumes will be used to generate electricity in the Syrian Arab Republic through a transfer point on the Turkish-Syrian border:

"This will allow electricity transmission hours to increase to approximately five hours per day, an increase of 40% from the current level. These indicators, in turn, will cover more than five million subscribers."

Inauguration ceremony of the pipeline was held

It should be noted that the opening ceremony of the Türkiye-Syria natural gas pipeline was held in the Yavuzlu village of the Kilis province of Türkiye. With the commissioning of the pipeline, the export of Azerbaijani gas to Syria via Türkiye began.

Annual transportation of 1.2 billion cubic meters is planned

It should be noted that preparations for the transportation of natural gas under the recently signed document between SOCAR and Syria have been completed. In the first stage, 1.2 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year is planned to be sent to Syria. The gas will pass through the city of Kilis on the Turkish border and reach the power plants in Aleppo and Homs and will be used for electricity generation. Thanks to this, a production capacity of approximately 1,200–1,300 megawatts is targeted.
