The Azerbaijanis detained by employees of the Russian Federal Security Service in Yekaterinburg will appear before the court tomorrow, APA reports.
It is expected that pre-trial detention measures will be chosen for some of them.
One of the Safarov brothers, Shakir Safarov, told APA that his two brothers — Ziyaddin and Huseyn — lost their lives. He did not confirm the information about the death of another brother or his cousins.
He stated that they are currently handling the paperwork to retrieve the bodies of Ziyaddin and Huseyn Safarov from the morgue: “The children of my detained brothers and cousins are unable to get information about them. I know that two of my brothers were killed. Their bodies are in the morgue. Right now, I am collecting the documents necessary to receive the bodies and send them to Azerbaijan.”
Shakir Safarov stated that there is information about more than 60 Azerbaijanis being detained: “Those detained are not only members of our family. Among them there are our compatriots from the southern region of Azerbaijan — from Jalilabad district, the Karabakh region, and the Guba area.”
APA has also verified through its own sources that the reports claiming five people were killed are not accurate.
The number of Azerbaijanis killed as a result of the operation carried out by employees of the Federal Security Service in the city of Yekaterinburg, Russia, is two.
Note that on the morning of June 27, an operation was carried out in more than 10 apartments inhabited by Azerbaijanis in Yekaterinburg. Most members of the Safarov family, originally from Aghdam, were detained. During the operation, two brothers — Ziyaddin and Huseyn Safarov — were killed, and a large number of Azerbaijanis were detained. Several individuals were hospitalized.
In connection with the incident, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan issued a statement and requested clarification on the matter from Russia. In addition, on June 28, the Chargé d'Affaires of the Russian Embassy in Azerbaijan, Pyotr Volokovikh, was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
A strong protest was expressed to the Russian side regarding the raids carried out by Russian security forces on June 27, 2025, in apartments where our compatriots live, during which two Azerbaijanis were brutally killed, several individuals sustained serious bodily injuries, and nine people were detained.
