“I would like to thank the government and people of Azerbaijan for hosting WUF13 at a high level,” UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed said during her speech at the closing ceremony of the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), APA reports.
The Deputy Secretary-General noted that reconstruction efforts in Karabakh and other territories, the reintegration of communities, and the restoration of infrastructure and peace are aimed at transforming those areas into centers of social solidarity, cultural development, and economic growth.
She stressed that the impacts of climate change and urbanization pressures are continuing to intensify around the world.
The UN official also thanked UN-Habitat and UN system staff for their professionalism and dedication in ensuring the successful organization of the forum.
She added that today the majority of humanity lives in cities and that cities should be shaped around the realities of people’s lives.
