Minister: Pacific islands are facing climate risks

“Pacific islands are facing climate risks," Papua New Guinea’s Minister for Housing and Urbanization, Kobby Bomareo, said during the special session on “Inclusive Urban Resilience, Blue Economy and Sustainable Tourism in Small Island Developing States” held within the framework of WUF13, APA-Economics reports.

The minister stated that Papua New Guinea and other Pacific island states are facing rising sea levels and the impacts of climate change.

Kobby Bomareo noted that challenges related to urbanization and housing further exacerbate these issues, while many island communities have no opportunity to relocate.

According to him, Pacific countries are acting from a unified position on these matters and require international support.

The minister called on international partners to make use of local knowledge and experience, emphasizing the importance of developing climate adaptation measures together with local communities.”
