Trump opposes NATO role in Ukraine security guarantees – Macron

US President Donald Trump believes that NATO should not be part of security guarantees for Ukraine, French President Emmanuel Macron said, APA reports quoting Le Monde.

"President Trump expressed this clearly in these exact words. He even said things that are very important to me: the fact that NATO should not be part of these security guarantees, and we know that this is a strong argument, especially for the Russian side," Macron said.

At the same time, according to him, the United States and other allies of Ukraine should be part of these guarantees.

The French president also added that during negotiations, Trump noted that he wanted the United States to be able to achieve a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia during the Alaska meeting.

"We support this initiative, as well as the exchange of prisoners and the release of children," Macron said.
