Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov met with UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) Armida Salsiah Aliscahbana within the framework of the 17th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization held in the city of Khankendi, Ministry of Foreign Affairs told APA.
The current state and development prospects of cooperation between Azerbaijan and UNESCAP were discussed at the meeting.
The Executive Secretary of UNESCAP expressed gratitude for the invitation to the summit and for our country's initiative to host the 82nd session of UNESCAP in 2026.
During the meeting, Azerbaijan's growing role in the region and on international platforms was highly appreciated, and the contributions of our country to the UN mission, including the successful hosting and productive chairmanship of the 25th anniversary summit of the Organization's Special Program for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) in 2023 and the UN Climate Change Conference - COP29 in 2024, were noted with satisfaction.
The parties reviewed the possibilities of implementing joint projects in areas such as climate change and green energy, transport corridors, technologies and digitalization.
The meeting also exchanged views on other global developments and challenges of mutual interest.
