Anar Guliyev: Women’s participation in inclusive projects is among key priorities

Every group in society has an important role in overall development. In Azerbaijan, we believe that inclusive participation is a key condition for building stronger and more sustainable cities, Chairman of the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture Anar Guliyev said during the joint opening of the assemblies held within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, APA-Economics reports.

He noted that genuine urban development takes place when every group in society has a voice and a role:

“And this starts with women. At the national level, they are among the most active and important participants in our society.

Azerbaijan is proud to be the first country in the Muslim world to grant women the right to vote and be elected in 1918. This was an important step toward equality and participation.

Today, women hold senior positions in government, parliament, academia, and the private sector. They make major contributions to the urbanization process as architects, urban planners, engineers, entrepreneurs, and decision-makers.

We are also proud to see women leading in technology, innovation, and digital transformation. They help build smarter and more sustainable cities.

This approach also continues in post-conflict reconstruction efforts, as well as in smart city and smart village projects. Women’s participation and equal opportunities are among the key priorities there as well.”
