Tbilisi City Court issues arrest warrant for opposition leader Nika Melia

Tbilisi City Court has issued an arrest warrant for Nika Melia, the leader of the opposition Coalition for Change, APA’s Tbilisi correspondent reports.

The court granted the state prosecutor’s request and replaced Melia’s release on bail with a pretrial detention measure.

Note that a criminal case has been opened against Nika Melia under Article 349 of Georgia’s Criminal Code for “failure to comply with the summons of the Temporary Investigation Commission of the Georgian Parliament.”

Recall that Nika Melia was detained yesterday by the police near Lisi Lake in Tbilisi. Melia’s press service stated that he was stopped by a large number of police officers while on his way to participate in a television program, and his mobile phone was confiscated.
