UN-Habitat representative calls for collective action at WUF13

Together we will change the world. But we cannot do it alone, which is why everyone is needed, Jonathan Oriki Some, a member of the UN-Habitat Youth Advisory Board, said at the closing ceremony of the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), APA reports.

He called for collective and joint action: “A call for collective response and action is needed. Today, one in four urban children grows up in slums. Problems related to urban development are destroying the future and dreams of millions of young people. Some children and youth are already growing up deprived of normal opportunities. Young people define housing as a gateway to dignity, security, and belonging. Housing should be linked to education, healthcare, safety, and opportunities for youth. As 70 percent of the population is expected to consist of young people by 2050, this call is directed not only at the problems you face today, but also at the future young people dream of.”
