Morocco has placed sustainability and territorial equality at the center of its vision, particularly through its new development model and advanced regionalization reforms.
APA reports that Fatna Chihab, Secretary General of the National Housing Council under Morocco’s Ministry of National Territorial Planning, Urban Planning, Housing and Urban Policy, said this during the event titled “Our Joint Efforts for the Next 10 Years on the New Urban Agenda (NUA)” held within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13).
“In terms of concrete impacts, the implementation of the New Urban Agenda in the country has been marked by a historic paradigm shift in our housing policy. Through the housing assistance program, the Kingdom moved from indirect support to construction companies to direct financial assistance for families,” Fatna Chihab noted.
She added that within just two years, more than 100,000 families, 46% of whom are women, have benefited from the program.
“At the same time, the historic efforts made to cover 3,800 rural settlements with urban planning documents have enabled better management of rural-urban continuity. It is also important to note the transition to sustainable mobility through the expansion of tramway networks and the introduction of high-service-level buses, which have fulfilled the country’s commitment to decarbonized and accessible transportation,” Fatna Chihab stressed.
