First official meeting of Global South Youth Platform adopts several decisions

An international conference titled “Global South Youth Platform: The Role of Youth in Urban Development in the Decolonization Process,” organized by the Baku Initiative Group, adopted decisions on the platform’s areas of activity, future priorities, and international cooperation opportunities within the framework of the first official meeting of the Global South Youth Platform, APA reports.

Four new countries were admitted to the platform, bringing the total number of member countries to 20.

The new members include Bonaire, Saint Martin, Senegal, and Egypt. At the same time, the platform is expected to expand further with the accession of additional member countries.

In their speeches, participants stressed the importance of establishing sustainable and effective cooperation among member states. It was also noted that implementing projects leading to tangible results will be one of the platform’s main areas of activity. In this regard, more effective participation of member countries and overseas territories is envisaged through practical and functional steps that take into account their interests and priorities.

In addition, priority directions and a future action plan for the next phase of the platform’s activities were determined. During the discussions, special attention was paid to strengthening cooperation mechanisms among the youth of member countries, as well as developing this cooperation at the institutional level.

The platform’s action plan identified expanding cooperation with international organizations and civil society institutions as one of the main priorities. It was noted that such cooperation would contribute to increasing the platform’s international standing, expanding youth participation in international decision-making processes, and implementing joint projects and initiatives.
