World Blind Union President: Needs of persons with disabilities were taken into account at WUF13

The needs of persons with disabilities were taken into account at WUF13, Santosh Kumar Rungta, President of the World Blind Union, told APA.

“The forum is very well organized. The event is quite accessible and I think the needs of various disability groups have been taken into account,” he noted.

Santosh Kumar Rungta stated that his main expectation from the international forum is for governments to undertake concrete commitments in political declarations regarding the creation of an inclusive and accessible environment.

He noted that the living environment, public services and transport systems should be accessible to all segments of society.

According to Santosh Kumar Rungta, this approach should take into account the needs of various disability groups, elderly people, women, children, youth and low-income population groups: “Public services, transport systems and public facilities should be accessible in a way that meets the needs of various disability groups, elderly persons, women, children and other vulnerable groups.”

Santosh Kumar Rungta emphasized that opportunities to obtain adequate housing and income are important for people to lead dignified lives: “People should have access to housing that ensures their dignity and creates adequate income opportunities for their livelihood.”
