“Hosting the World Urban Forum is both a great responsibility and an expression of the trust shown to us by the international community and UN-Habitat," Chairman of the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture and WUF13 National Coordinator Anar Guliyev said during his speech at the official opening press conference held within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, APA-Economics reports.
He noted that this partnership and the close cooperation that made WUF13 possible are highly appreciated:
“Our cooperation is built on shared values such as resilience, inclusivity, sustainability and the belief that cities must first and foremost serve people. For Azerbaijan, hosting WUF13 is not merely an international event, it is a reflection of our national priorities and our vision for the future. In our country, we are carrying out large-scale transformation efforts aimed at modernising cities, expanding green infrastructure, improving public services, investing in affordable housing projects, strengthening climate resilience and building smarter and more inclusive communities.”
Anar Guliyev said that at the same time, one of the largest reconstruction and development projects of our era is being implemented in the liberated territories:
“Cities and villages that were once destroyed are being rebuilt on the principles of resilience, smart urban planning, green development and human dignity.
This is not simply reconstruction, it is the creation of a new model of urban development.”
