“I was pleased to personally see the situation in the region," Amy Carlon, Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in the Republic of Azerbaijan said while sharing her impressions within the framework of the visit of diplomatic corps representatives to East Zangezur and Karabakh, APA’s correspondent dispatched to Karabakh reports.
“This is a very different region compared to the area we visited before. It is my first time visiting Shusha, Lachin, and Khankendi. I am very pleased to see the situation with my own eyes,” she noted.
The diplomat also touched upon the prospects for the participation of US companies in projects implemented in Karabakh. According to her, economic cooperation has been identified as one of the main directions in the new strategic partnership charter signed between the US and Azerbaijan.
“The Vice President JD Vance signed a new Strategic Partnership Charter with President Ilham Aliyev during his visit to Azerbaijan in February. One of the main pillars of our cooperation is economic cooperation. Other areas include connectivity, defense, and security,” the diplomat said.
The US Chargé d’Affaires emphasized that one of the main goals is to identify joint projects that will be beneficial for both Azerbaijani and US companies: “One of my main goals is to find joint projects that could be of interest to US companies and benefit Azerbaijan. Several delegations have already visited here. For the first time, representatives of the US Chamber of Commerce also came to Azerbaijan together with the Vice President. Companies have visited here to explore opportunities.”
The diplomat added that over the past two weeks, technical experts from the US Trade and Development Agency have also been in Azerbaijan and assessed potential cooperation projects.
She also noted that there are no obstacles for US companies to operate in Karabakh: “For example, the Hilton Garden Inn Aghdam is already operating in Aghdam.”
