White House will present a record-breaking $1.5 trillion defense budget proposal

On April 3, the White House will present its proposed US defense budget for fiscal year 2027. It is being proposed for a record $1.5 trillion. This is $445 billion, or 42%, more than in the current fiscal year. 

The Pentagon is expected to release a detailed plan on April 21.

 - The document provides funding for the modernization and diversification of strategic nuclear weapons.

 - A $3.6 billion increase in the budget for the development of new nuclear warheads is proposed. The bill submitted to Congress allocates funding for the procurement and expanded production of 12 types of munitions that are critical to the nation's defense.

 - Approximately $760 billion will be allocated for weapons development and procurement. Spending is planned to increase on programs related to the Golden Dome missile defense system, shipbuilding, and F-35 fighter jets.

 - The proposal calls for the purchase of 85 F-35 fighter jets of various modifications. $65.8 billion is planned for the construction of 18 combat and 16 non-combat ships.

 - The Golden Dome will receive $17.5 billion.

 - The document prioritizes the rapid development and production of the F-47, which is scheduled to make its first flight in 2028.

At the same time, the administration intends to reduce non-military federal budget spending for the 2027 fiscal year by 10% ($73 billion). Specifically, it proposes cutting spending in the following areas:

 

- NASA appropriations amount to $5.6 billion, ISS funding amount to $1.1 billion.

- The US administration expects to cut spending on foreign policy and foreign aid.

- $35.6 billion is allocated for the activities of the State Department.

- Contributions to the budgets of international organizations, including the UN, are planned to be reduced by $2.7 billion, humanitarian aid programs by $2 billion, food aid by $1.2 billion, and healthcare programs by $4.3 billion.

 - $18 billion is allocated for military aid programs to allies, including arms supplies. Assistance to Ukraine is not specifically mentioned.
