Moscow not holding talks with Yerevan on transferring Armenian railways concession to Kazakhstan

Russia’s Foreign Ministry said Moscow is not holding negotiations with Yerevan on transferring the concession management of Armenia’s railways to Kazakhstan, APA’s Moscow bureau reports.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated at a briefing that on March 30, Russia’s Transport Minister Andrey Nikitin did not hold any talks with either Yerevan or Astana on the issue.

““It should be taken into account that this statement was made by the head of the relevant authority. I would also like to remind that the agreement signed with Armenia in 2008 is valid for 30 years and can be extended for another 10 years. For many years, South Caucasus Railway CJSC has been responsibly fulfilling the terms of this agreement. Russia’s investments in Armenia’s railway infrastructure have exceeded 30 billion rubles,” Zakharova noted.

She did not respond to a question on whether the issue would be discussed during talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at the Kremlin today.
