Sixteen people, including prominent figures from business, sport and entertainment, have been detained as part of an investigation led by prosecutors in Istanbul, according to local media reports.
Those detained include former Beşiktaş president Fikret Orman, former Galatasaray president Burak Elmas, as well as well-known personalities such as Hande Erçel, Hakan Sabancı and Didem Soydan.
The Istanbul prosecutor’s office said the investigation centres on allegations including drug production and trafficking, facilitating drug use, possession of narcotics and encouraging prostitution.
Authorities have also issued arrest warrants for seven individuals, including Mr Orman and several of the high-profile figures named in the investigation.
Police have already taken Mr Orman into custody, while operations related to the case are ongoing.
