First gas from Absheron field full-scale development expected in autumn 2029

The first gas production within the framework of the Absheron Full Field Development Project is planned for September 2029, APA-Economics reports citing TotalEnergies Absheron B.V., a company participating in the development project of the Absheron field.

“According to the project schedule, after the completion of onshore and offshore construction and commissioning activities, the first gas is expected to be produced on September 1, 2029,” stated in the report.

According to the report, the Absheron Full Field Development Project represents the next stage of development of the Absheron offshore gas-condensate field following the successful implementation of the Early Production Scheme project. The project includes the drilling of three (plus one future) subsea wells, installation of subsea infrastructure, laying of offshore and onshore pipelines, and construction of an Onshore Central Processing Facility (CPF) located approximately 4 km southwest of the bp-operated Sangachal Terminal.

“The CPF will process raw well fluids and gas for export to the South Caucasus Pipeline (SCP) and the Domestic Gas Network, and will export unstabilized condensate to the Sangachal Terminal. First Gas is planned for September 2029 with an operational lifespan of approximately 30 years,” the information notes.

The Absheron gas-condensate field is located in the Absheron archipelago of the South Caspian oil and gas basin, approximately 85–100 km east of Baku, at a sea depth of about 350–550 meters. According to preliminary estimates, the hydrocarbon reserves of the Absheron field amount to 350 billion cubic meters of gas and 45 million tons of condensate. The field is being developed by JOCAP, a joint operating company of SOCAR and TotalEnergies.

On August 4, 2023, another shareholder joined the Absheron project – the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC). As a result, the new share distribution among the shareholders was formed with SOCAR and TotalEnergies each holding 35%, and ADNOC holding 30%.
